Wines of The World

"A Tasting of Pinot"

On this night we will be featuring 4 wines—each from the Pinot family of grapes.  Not only will the wines be delicious, we also think tasting this grouping side by side should be quite insightful as well.  How often do we have learning opportunities like this come around?

$39 PP + Tax & Tip

Served with charcuterie boards with Prosciutto di Parma, Manchego Cheese, Local Goat's Milk Tomme, Charred Ricotta Salata, Nicoise, Castelvetrano Olives, Picholine, and Macadamia Pralines.

2021 FAILLA Pinot Noir “Sonoma Coast” (Pinot Noir)

We start with a top end Pinot Noir out of California.  Owner/ winemaker Ehren Jordan is without a doubt one of the most talented wine making stars out of California. His wines are so elegant, classy, seamless & wonderfully transparent & delicious.

2020 AU BON CLIMAT “Hildegard” (White wine from a mind altering blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc & Aligote)

Owner/ winemaker Jim Clendenen was also a truly “game changing” winemaker, who was only the third American to be selected as Winemaker of the Year.

He was one who believed (I do too) the white Burgundies of OLD, were not produced ONLY from Chardonnay.  The natural, aged, old vine field blends also included mutations of Pinot Noir (such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc) & even Aligote.  This wine is made in homage to that thought.  And, while Charlemagne during the old days was the emperor, his wife, Hildegard, was the Queen.

2020 CAVALLOTTO “Pinner” (Pinot Noir vinified WHITE from Barolo country)

Cavallotto is one of the VERY TOP producers of Barolo.  Across from their most revered Bricco Boschis Cru vineyard, they purchased the mirroring hillside in 1989, which included 1.68 hectares of Pinot Noir (a Champagne clone, planted in 1972).  These 50 plus years old vines are a very unique offering, which they choose to vinify WHITE.

THIS is that wine. As limited as it is, we were able to get some for this tasting.

2021 HEIDI SCHRÖCK Weissburgunder  (Pinot Blanc)

Here is another stellar Pinot based white wine from a most prodigious winemaking master—Heidi Schrock from Austria.

Though VERY grouted in a strong respect for terroir, the potential of a grape variety in that terroir, the heritage and teachings of her family, her wines characteristically showcase a wonderful purity which is mesmerizing though not stark or striking…more gentle, civil...very honest…graceful…welcoming…classic, but as she rather cloyingly notes…”done with a twist…a little surprise…and never boring”.  That is why she has such a HUGE following throughout the world.
